Recognition of the State of Palestine


We, the People of the United States, guided by the enduring values of liberty, justice, and the inalienable dignity of all peoples, do hereby proclaim our recognition of Palestine as a sovereign and independent state.



Preamble



We speak not as agents of government or instruments of foreign policy, but as citizens of a nation born from resistance to colonial domination, grounded in principles of self-determination, and committed to the belief that freedom is not a privilege, but a universal right.



Recognition



We affirm the existence of the State of Palestine, with its capital in East Jerusalem and its people rooted in a land, a history, and a culture that predates the modern international order. We recognize its sovereignty, its right to define its own future, and its equal status among the nations of the Earth.



Rationale



  1. Historical Continuity & Cultural Identity
    The Palestinian people have maintained uninterrupted ties to their land for generations. They possess a distinct linguistic, cultural, and historical identity that meets every criterion of peoplehood under international norms.
  2. Right to Self-Determination
    The foundational charter of the United Nations declares that all peoples have the right to self-determination. Denying this right to Palestinians violates not only their dignity but also the foundational ethics of global order.
  3. Human Dignity & Justice
    Recognition is the first step toward ending the statelessness that has marginalized an entire nation. It is a stand against the normalization of displacement, disenfranchisement, and erasure. It is a declaration that no people are invisible.
  4. Peace through Equality
    True peace is not the absence of conflict but the presence of justice. A just world cannot exist when an entire population is denied political agency. Recognition of Palestine is a necessary pillar for long-term peace and coexistence in the region and beyond.
  5. The Voice of the Global Majority
    Over 130 nations and countless individuals around the globe already recognize Palestine. The people of the United States add their voice to this rising chorus — not out of politics, but out of conscience.

This recognition is not a weapon. It is not a rebuke. It is an act of human solidarity, of moral clarity, and of historical necessity. It is the recognition of a people’s right to stand in their own name, beneath their own flag, upon their own land.
