      I was naïve. There's really no other way to explain the past 50 years of my optimism. I was simply too blind to see that attempting to see the best in everyone can lead to being kidnapped and robbed. My faith in institutions was misplaced and undeserved at least in a large portion of those who call themselves civil servants. There is this pervasive complicity among everyone in Orange County. One that makes it OK to look the other way while fraud, corruption, enrichment and genocide run unfettered. In all my time on this earth, I had never once thought that mediocre individuals would have the power to place me in chains, strip me of all human rights and laugh along the way.
